The methodical report of self-efficacy program after a gynecological operation and how it affects the abdominal surgery patients’ recovery

Abstract

Background:    Gynecological operation is considered a common cases occurring at gynecology ward. The most founded effects are a wound pain and flatulence which cause a long period of operation recovery and also cause more hospital stay and unexpected cost. In addition, it also effects the family, economic and social issues of patients. However, in well controlled patients with by providing enough information ,effective communication, and systematic health promotion so they can prevent preventable complications.

Objective:        To compare the gynecological patients’ recovery after abdominal surgery between the attended group and another one which did not attend the methodical program.

Study design: This quasi - experimental research were to compare the gynecological patients’recovery after abdominal surgery of two group for pre and post test in the gynecology ward at Phrae Hospital who had been taken between August 2016 until September 2016. The attended group participants comprised 32 patients and another one which did not attend the methodical program participants comprised 32 patients. The instruments were were personal data and the methodical report of self-efficacy program after a gynecological operation. The recording form were 1) recovery from operation 2) pain after operation for 1-3 days 3) flatulence 4) ability to walk and do the daily routine. 5) bowel and bladder period and 6) hospital stay period. The data was analyzed by using t-test and exact probability test groups.

Results:            The patients who took the self-efficacy program after a gynecological operation reduce the pain level after the first day (p=0.000), after an operation they could drink more water (p=0.019), they could get up from bed quickly (p=0.045), they had a short hospital stay period (p=0.109), they could reduce their cost (p=0.137), and the gained more self-efficacy knowledge to take care of themselves. (p= 0.000)

Conclusions:    The gynecological patients treated with the methodical self-efficacy program recover better than normal care.
