Factors Influencing Intention to Repeat Blood Donation among Phrae Donor

Abstract

Background: Insufficient blood donation in Phrae Province, 35.0% may be caused of the different area and health problems. In 2015-2017, the branch of Thai Red Cross Society, Phrae Hospital had average amount of first time donors 19.7% and 83.3% were not return to repeated donors within six months.Study of factors influencing the intention to repeated blood donors in the individual characteristic to be used in planning and development the blood transfusion services for increasing  the repeated donors.                                                                               

Objective:     To study the factors influencing intention to repeat blood donation.                                                                                                   

Study design: The crossectional study analysis in record forms to investigate the factors influencing intention to repeat blood donation within six months, compared two groups, 180 repeated donors group and 405 non-repeated donors group. Data analysis were percentage, mean, standard deviation and multivariable logistic regression.

Results:         Repeated donors group was most average aged 29.83 years and another group was most average aged 26.36 years, were statistically significant difference and repeated donors group had most donated more than two times (68.34%),another group had most donated more than two times (50.12%), were statistically significant difference.The knowledge in blood donation of repeated donors group was most good level 43.33% and non- repeated donors group was most medium level 45.19%, were statistically significant difference. The attitude of repeated donors group was most good level, 80.56% and another group most good level, 63.70%, were statistically significant difference. The conception of policy in Thai Red Cross Society, two groups were most good level 57.22% and 45.43% respectively, were statistically significant difference. The intention to donate within six months of repeated donors group was most good level 89.44%, another group was most good level, 56.05%, were statistically significant difference. Found that two groups had most good level on satisfy in donor blood services which no statistically significant difference. Study of the influencing factors to repeat blood donation within six months, five factors of statistically significant in 95%Confidential (Odds ratio/OD) were education degree in low of bachelor degree (OD 8.45), high school degree (OD2.27), good level of knowledge (OD7.29), two times blood donated behavior (OD6.51), more than two times blood donated behavior (OD5.32), donor residence in Muang District, Phrae (OD2.55) and older than 59 years blood donors (OD2.38).                        

Conclusion:   The factors influencing intention to repeat blood donation were knowledge and good attitude, conception of policy in Thai Red Cross Society, convenience in service access and donors had donated behavior more than two times blood donation
