Outcomes of pharmaceutical care on the success of treatment for Pulmonary Tuberculosis patient in 2019, Den Chai, Phrae

Abstract

Background: Tuberculosis is an infectious disease that affected humanity worldwide, which inappropriate treatment and acquired resistance pathogens are the major causes of death from tuberculosis. Pharmaceutical care in tuberculosis setting plays a role in monitoring adherence, evaluating the reasonability of treatment and defining causes of tuberculosis resistance.

Objective:     To develop a model and study the Outcomes of pharmaceutical care on the success of treatment for pulmonary tuberculosis patients, Den Chai, Phrae.

Study design: Quasi-experiment at Denchai Crown Prince Hospital during October 2018 to September 2019, 46 subjects were pharmaceutical care groups (experimental group) and 86 pharmaceutical care groups (control group) in which the researchers collected data from medical records. Previous past uses questionnaires to collect information regarding pharmaceutical care and drug use problems of patients.

Results:         The experimental group after the operation of pharmaceutical care had the cured and treatment completed 77.2 % which is higher than the control group p-value < 0.05. The percentage of deaths in the experimental group is lower than the control group but there is no statistical difference in addition, it was found that problems with drug use of the experimental group were lower than the control group, especially the Isoniazid (4-6 mg/kg/day) doses, both dosage too high and dosage too low found statistical significance at the p-value <0.05.

Conclusion:   The Pharmaceutical care in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis improved treatment outcomes, increased medication adherence and resolved drug related problems, resulting in successful treatment of pulmonary tuberculosis.
