Overweight is a risk factor and a cause of physical and mental health problems. When medical personnel encounters health problems, this will result in decreased work efficiency.
Objective: To study the relationship between shift work and overweight in medical personnel in Phrae Hospital.
Study Design: This research was a cross-sectional analytical study. The subjects were 176 medical personnel at Phare Hospital. The questionnaire was used to collect self-report data. Data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics consisting of frequency distribution, percentage, mean, and standard deviation. Using inferential statistics, consisting of an independent sample; Spearman’s correlation and exact probability.
Results: The body mass index of medical personnel at Phrae hospital is mostly overweight (BMI =23.0-24.9) and obese (BMI ≥25) 48.6%. And found that the number of night shift assignments per month (Rho =-0.0366, p <0.4548) and body movement while performing duties (Rho =-0.0303, p <0.5346) increased body movement while performing duties was not significantly related to a decrease in body mass index. But found that when age increases, it correlates with the body mass index increased significantly statistically (Rho = -0.2121, p <0.001). As well as work experience or extended work-life (Rho = -0.189, p <0.001).
Conclusion: Most of the medical personnel at Phrae Hospital are overweight and obese and have inappropriate exercise behavior. Which most medical personnel think that working late afternoon and late night is a hurdle to exercise.
