The effect of the Covid-19 vaccine (CoronaVac) on liver function test in healthcare workers at Phrae Hospital

Abstract

Background:   With the unprecedented morbidity and mortality associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, a vaccine against COVID-19 is urgently needed for Phrae Hospital’s health care professionals. Drug information Service of Pharmacy Department was consulted by a healthcare professional who had liver function increased after received CoronaVac. Therefore, this study it was used to analyze the relationship to vaccination.

Objective:   To monitor liver function test after receiving the COVID-19 vaccine. 

Study design: Cross-sectional observational study determines the relationship of liver function test and Covid-19 vaccination among healthcare professionals at Phrae Hospital.

Results:   There are 1,179 health care professionals who received 2 doses of CoronaVac. Six patients, incidence rate was 508 per 100,000 people with unexplained increase in liver function, classified into 3 groups: 1) Increase AST alone, one person 2) Increase ALT alone, four persons 3) Increase in both AST and ALT, one person. There were 3 patients who had repeated liver function tests found that 2 of 3 patients had decreased liver function until normal range.

Conclusion:   Increased liver function test after received 2 doses CoronaVac probably related to vaccination. However, no one was harmed in the survey.
