The Relationship between Social Relationship and Self-Esteem with Life Quality of the Elderly in Krachod Sub-District Health Promotion Hospital, Muang District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province

Abstract

This purpose of the research was to study the relationship between social relationship and self-esteem with life quality of the elderly. The sample consists of 80 people who had aged 60 years and up in Krachod sub-district health promotion hospital, Muang district, Nakhon Ratchasima province. The data were collected by questionnaires and the data analysis was done by frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation and Pearson’s product moment correlation coefficient. The research revealed as follows the majority was female by 60.00%, followed by male was 40.00% and the average age was 68.40 years. The majority age was between 60-69 years by 70.00%, followed by age was between 70-79 years by 28.80%. People who graduated from primary school were 91.20%. The marital status was 87.50%. All sample groups were agriculturist by 100%, monthly income was less than 1,000 baht by 80.00%, followed by income between 1,000-1,999 baht were 20.00%, people who lived in their pawn house were 85.00%, no congenital disease was 82.50% and they can able do the routine activities by 100.00%. Perceived social relationship was at the high level by 56.20%, followed by the moderate level was 43.80 %. Self-esteem on social was at the high level by 61.20 %, followed by the moderate level was 38.80 %. Life quality of the elderly, the overall were at the high level by 85.00 %. The life quality classified in term of physical life quality was at the moderate level by 52.50%, mental life quality was at the high level by 58.80%. The majority of social life quality was at the high level by 52.50%,, the majority of family life quality was at the high level by 52.50 %, the majority of environment life quality was at the high level by 51.20 %. The majority of recreation and hobby life quality were at the high and the moderate level by 50.00%. Perceived the social relation and self-esteem had relation with life quality of the elderly with a statistically significant difference (r= .45 and .40, P-value = .00)
