Research and Development for Elementary Laboratory Services in Sub-district Health Promoting Hospitals in Kamalasai and Khongchai District, Kalasin Province, 2014

The aim of this study was to develop and improve the accuracy and precision of laboratory services at sub-district health promoting hospitals in Kamalasai and Khongchai districts. It was conducted as a quasi-experimental research with one group pre test-post test design. The study samples were medical personnel who were responsible for performing elementary laboratory services in Khongchai community hospital and 17 sub-district health promoting hospitals in both districts. They were assigned to participate in competency development program of elementary clinical screening examination consisting of blood glucose, urine pregnancy test, urine glucose and protein and hematocrit. Each study participant was fol-lowed and evaluated for competency improvement. In the meantime, each health facility was also assessed for the quality of laboratiory services based on the clinical laboratory standard of Ministry of Public Health. Data were collected by using questionnaire and records for quality assessment; and were analyzed by appropriated statistics including frequency, mean, percentage, standard deviation, paired t-test and Wilcoxon signed ranks test. It was found that madical personnel had gain more competency after participating in the laboratory training programme (p<0.05). As well, clinical laboratory quality in both community and sub-district health promoting hospitals was at higher standard after the program (p=0.05), and all of them were formally certified at the end of the study.
