Abstract

        The participatory action research had an objective of model development of cervical cancer screening with community participation in Mueang Kae Primary Care Unit. In all, 386 stakeholders, comprising a women target group, service providers at Mueang Kae Primary Care Unit an community health care supporters, participated through 3 phases of study during October 2550 – February 2551.

        In the first phase : a situation analysis employing SWOT analysis, data collection was carried out followed by data analysis with content analysis. In the second phase : implementation of the model developed, reflecting, data collection through observation, note taking in group meeting, group discussion, interviews and field notes. Descriptive statistics was employed for quantitative data and content analysis for qualitative one.

        It was found that system development was witnessed on 3 fronts : 1) important input of policy on community participation, clear roles defining and applied technology; 2) process – proactive implementation as defined by their roles collectively, capacity building with work support and application of the applied technology and 3) out put : the service system development had introduced new perspectives while wiping out obstacles such as, appropriate technology fit for proactive service,health education and co-operation strategies through site – specific public relations program, time adjustment of service hours to suit ways of life, and needs of the locals. As a consequence, 87.34 percent of the target group underwent the screening of cervical cancer with complete satisfaction (100 %). The findings underline the needs to develop the service system and define goals while focusing on wide participation of stakeholders. As such, a committee should be set up and responsible for cervical cancer screening in communities in order to follow up and render a full support for future screening activities.
