Abstract

A system of drug administration has been developed in Nakhon Ratchasima Province with a main objective to make available adequate supplies of good and cheap drugs to be utilized in all district health facilities. The programme began in 1990 with formation of organizing committees and establishment of 8 drug administration subsystems including preparation of common drug list, drug selection and bargaining, drug purchasing planning, drug distribution, and drug quality control. The programme has achieved a considerable success in developing an efficient drug management system such as availability of good quality drugs, saving of several million baht from purchasing cheaper drugs, and satisfaction of personnel at all levels. The programme can be used as a model for policy formulation concerning the development of regional and national drug administration systems.
