Abstract

The assessment of teaching model using transformative learning approach for English Communication 1 subject of Boromrajonani College of Nursing Nakorn Lampang, Praboromrajchanok Institute aimed to 1) evaluate the teaching model of the English Communication 1 subject 2) compare the differences of students’ learning outcomes before and after being taught by this model 3) investigate the relationship between the teaching model and the learning outcomes in English communication 1 and 4) assess the effectiveness of this teaching model on the learning outcomes in the English communication of the first year student, academic year 2018. The research samples were 157 of the first year nursing students from Boromrajonani College of Nursing Nakorn Lampang, while enrolled in the first semester of the academic year 2018. Research tools used in this study were: 1) an ability evaluation test on the performance of English communication 1 and 2) a questionnaire to investigate students’ opinions towards teaching model. Data were analyzed and presented in mean and standard deviation. The differences of learning outcomes before and after the instruction have been analyzed by using Compared-T Test. Logistic Regression Analysis was conducted to analyze factors affecting to the students’ learning outcomes. The results showed that the opinion of students, overall, in the teaching model was at high level (Mean=4.30, SD=0.70). The highest level has been shown in the opinion toward the instructor (Mean=4.40, SD=0.69). Interestingly, the students’ learning outcomes after instruction were significantly lower than before the instruction (p<0.05). In term of the relationship between the teaching model and the students’ learning outcomes, we found that the correlation coefficient of teaching efficiency was between 0.183 and 0.285 in all aspects. It was clearly seen that the effectiveness of this teaching model using transformative learning approach had no effect on the students’ learning outcomes of the first year students, Academic year 2018 with the statistical significant at the 0.05 level.
