The Effectiveness of AIDS Exhibitions for Red Cross Youths from Regions of Thailand
Abstract
The primary objective of this research was to determine and compare the knowledge and attitudes about AIDS of Red Cross Youth classified by: age, educational level and regional school set. The secondary objective was determine how the youth felt they could help in prevention and control of AIDS. This Pre-experimental Design Research consisted of random sample of 300 Red Cross Youth from the four regions of Thailand who attended the Sixth Asia Pacific Red Cross Youth Gathering Thailand at Vajirawut Boyscout Camp Chonburi province, june 21-27, 1992. Data was collected through a questionnaire of knowledge and attitudes, given after the sample had studied the AIDS exhibition booth, and then analyzed by using percentages and F-test (One – Way ANOVA). The research was completed in Five months. The results were as follows:
- The majority of the sample were highly knowledgable and had very good attitudes about AIDS. The comparison of AIDS knowledge and attitudes in different groups classified by age was significant at the 0.05 level, but educational level and regional school set showed no significant difference.
- The sample felt they could aid the control and prevention of AIDS by a campaign and exhibition show. Their parents could help by : not being promiscuous, using condom every time, and not sharing narcotic syringes. The school and teachers could help by creating exhibition shows and teaching about AIDS.
