Model Development of Desirable Characteristics of Graduates in the Subdistrict Health Promotion Hospital, Nonthaburi Province

The purposes of this research were to study the expectations of personnel in subdistrict health promotion hospitals regarding the desirable characteristics of graduates to be recruited; and to develop a model of desirable characteristics of the graduates. Informants were 180 personnel working in 77 subdistric health promotion hospital in Nonthaburi Province. Data were collected by using questionnaire together with an in-dept interview with 5 public health and education experts; and were analyzed by using percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test, and One-way ANOVA and post-hoc analysis. It was found that the respondents had high level of expectations; and the highest one was on cognitive skills. The desirable characteristics in the human development model should include the following: (1) interpersonal relationship skills as well as having responsibility and capability to work happily with people who had different characteristics, (2) emotional intelligence, (3) being able to apply knowledge for problem solving through holistic health care, (4) quantitative and qualitative research skills, (5) skills in performing as a public health professional, and (6) skills in manageming information technology. Recommendations from this study include: (1) improvement of teaching curriculum that is in line with the Community Public Health Act B.E 2556, and (2) producing graduates with in-depth and broard knowledge in providing services to the public.
