AIDS Vaccine Knowledge of Housewives, Lampun Province
Abstract
A survey on AIDS vaccine was conducted among mother of children receiving basic vaccination in Lampun. Most of them knew about the basic vaccines (84.2%), the benefits of vaccination, and half of them (57.4%) knew that AIDS vaccine is currently under development.
Nearly all of them perceived the seriousness of AIDS epidemic and 49.5% of mothers assessed their own risk contracting AIDS through husbands. They knew that infected mothers could transmit the virus to infants (94.2%). 68.4% of mothers believe that AIFS vaccines could prevent the disease and 88.4% accepted the effective vaccine if available. Still, about half of them (48.4%) beware of the side effects of vaccines. These basic information can be used to tailor the education about AIDS vaccines for the public.
