บทคัดย่อ

Dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) was the most common vector-borne disease transmitted by the mosquito Aedes spp. This study was aimed to compare the effectiveness of mosquito breeding control methods in 3 different locations in the vicinity of the City of Phuket, namely: weekly breeding place management, application of once a month and twice a month of 0.05% deltamethrin insecticide spray of which carried out at the North, Central, Kuan temples respectively whereas the Sansuk and Langsan temples were 2 control groups. Three entomological indices: container index (CI), house index (HI) and pupae per person index (PPI)) were used. Two-group pretest-posttest design was applied; and the baseline samplings were conducted prior to the study and then every 10 days for 3 months. The frequency, percentage, mean, t-test, one-way ANOVA and one-sample Kolmogorov-Smirnov test were used for data analysis. The results revealed that the mean CI, HI and PPI in all 5 temples decreased upon comparing to the baseline levels (p<0.05). However, there was no difference in terms of the mean CI, HI and PPI among the 5 temples using the 3 different mosquito control methods (p>0.05). Therefore, we advocate weekly breeding place management by practising “close, change, clean, improve environment, add on mosquito-eaten-fish & regular practise strategy” for regular surveillance; and to apply insecticide spray only when a case of DHF is reported.

Key words: mosquito breeding place control, Dengue hemorrhagic fever
