Abstract

Background:  Breast cancer is a disease with a high incidence and is the most common in women. It's ranked second. After the surgery, the patient will insert a drain removal and a radivac drain ready for discharge, giving the opportunity for the drainage tube let out. The most common complication after breast cancer surgery was the ability to move shoulder joints, which may result in frozen shoulder and disabilities. Providing the correct knowledge in taking care of oneself with demonstrations to help patients become confident and able to act correctly. It can help prevent and reduce complications.

Objective:     In order to compare drainage tube let out and attached frozen shoulder  in breast cancer surgery patients who receiving and non-receiving a demonstrations program.

Study design: This research was a study of intervention by the interrupted time design. The population studied was breast cancer surgery patients in the female surgery ward. The study was conducted in 2 periods, 23 patients in control groups, and 23 patients in the experimental group. The control group provided normal nursing care and the experimental group added a demonstrations about drain removal and radivac drain and a demonstrations program to manage shoulder joints to prevent the frozen shoulder. Follow the drainage tube and measure shoulder joints using a goniometer. Comparative analysis by Exact probability test, t-test, and Wilcoxon rank-sum test.

Conclusion:   The demonstrations program for taking care of drain removal and radivac drain helps patients take care of drain removal and radivac drain according to the doctor’s treatment plan by no drain removal let out. And the demonstrations of the shoulder management program helps to increase the degree of shoulder movement of breast cancer patients after surgery.

Results:         Both groups didn’t find any drain removal let out in After 2 weeks of operation, no difference with a statistical signification (p=1.000), and found that the angles of the frozen shoulder in both groups were greater than 150 degrees, assess that there is on shoulder condition. And found that the shoulder joint angle in flexion of the arms in week 8, 12 in the experimental group had more degrees of movement with a statistical signification with a P-value equal to 0.001-0.007. And abduction poses of the arms in week 8, 12 that have more degrees of movement with statistical signification with P-value equal to 0.007-0.000.
