Nursing for Metformin-Associated Lactic Acidosis patient: Case study

Abstract

This study is a case study in diabetic patients with Metformin-Associated Lactic Acidosis (MALA). The objective to find a holistic approach to patient care and to develop a plan to sell diabetic patients with MALA in the female medical ward Nursing Group Chaiyaphum Hospital. Heal in the female medical ward in March 2019. By using the nursing process as the concept of comprehensive patient care. The results of the study found 7 diagnoses in nursing as follows: 1) Risk of life-threatening due to shock from hyperglycemia 2) Ketone acid secretion in the body 3) There is a electrolyte imbalance 4) Low risk of hypoglycemia due to high dose insulin receptors 5) Unable to help themselves due to unconsciousness 6) Infection in the body from the congestion of ketone acid and hyperglycemia 7) Patients and relatives are concerned about the disease condition that exists. From the diagnosis of nursing, leading to nursing planning nursing practice and the evaluation of nursing, that is in line with the problem and the patient has been planned for sales in the form of D-METHOD.

Suggestions in this study, that the health care team should have a follow up on the telephone. And improved as multidiscipline team work, there should be continuously follow up after discharge, providing consult and advice on how to take care patients for the caregivers, and education for patients and their relatives how to follow the instructions properly.
