Abstract

Vitamin B12 is one of important nutritional component that affect oral health. Individuals with decreased level of vitamin B12 have been reported to exhibit various sign and symptoms, including glossitis, diffuse erythematous mucositis, glossodynia, recurrent aphthous and burning sensation. Glossitis and glossodynia are most common symptoms of vitamin B12 deficiency. Thus, the dentist, who is often consulted first, has a prime opportunity and responsibility to contribute diagnosis before the patient is referred to physician for adequate treatment. This is one of case reports about oral manifestations of vitamin B12 deficiency. The patient presented with glossitis, atrophic oral mucosa with burning sensation, additional hematologic abnormality and decrease level of vitamin B12, then oral vitamin B12 supplement, the patient had recovery of oral mucosa.
