Abstract

Report from the Ministry of Health’s national survey since 2009 revealed the steadily increasing trend of type 2 diabetes among the risk groups which led to possible complications or damages of eyes, kidneys, blood vessels and peripheral nerves and thus resulted in undesirable economic and other conse-quences. This article is aimed to offer guidance to prevent type 2 diabetes by focusing on specific self-care behaviors among risk population based on the concept from American Association of Diabetes Educators (AADE). Such behaviors include: (1) healthy eating, (2) being active through exercise, (3) problem solving, (4) reducing risks, (5) healthy coping and (6) monitoring of blood sugar level. This approach can also be used in populations at risk of other chronic diseases as well.
