Factor Related to Musculoskeletal Disorders among Office Workers, Walailak University

Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) are a critical health problem among computer office workers. The objective was conducted to study related factor with musculoskeletal disorders among office workers, Walailak University.The cross-sectional research included 140 office workers who were selected using Multistage stage sampling and interviewed by questionnaire. Data were conducted using the questionnaire which was modified from Bureau of Occupational and Environmental Diseases, Department of Disease Control, Ministry of Public Health and Rapid Upper Limp Assessment tool. Using a statistical techniques used for data analysis were frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, chi-square and odd ratio. The study found that the musculoskeletal disorders during the past 1 year were 83.6%. The fifth highest prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders were the right shoulder 65.7%, neck 62.1%, the left shoulder 61.4%, upper back 66.4% and lower back 61.2% respectively.The ergonomic risks were at high level in the majority of the office staffs (41.4%) and the risks were very high in 30.7%. Factors affecting musculoskeletal disorders significantly were medical problem, sitting at work more than 20 minutes and ergonomics risk (p<0.05). The high prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders among these workers indicates that they should be encouraged in prevention programmes of musculoskeletal disorders by the relevant organization.
