Forecasting the Medical Care Cost of AIDS in Bamrasnaradura Hospital

The research was done to analyze the medical care cost for patients with AIDS and symptomatic HIV infection attending Bamrasnaradura Hospital during January 1,1993 to October 31, 1994. There were 212 AIDS cases diagnosed, 200 men (94.33%) and 12 women (5.67%). The majority of them were labourers (80.18%) with an average age of 33 years. The total year cost of medicinal care was 60,066.87 baht (US$ 2,402). The IPD average number of admissions was 3 times a year and average length of stay was about 32 days. The total annual medical care cost was 19,752.11 baht per person. For OPD cases, an average hospital charge was 3,280.29 bath each time. Of these amount patients were able to pay their expenses about 45.78% and an average survival time was 7.1 months, and the total of medical care cost for AIDS patients in Bamrasnaradura Hospital estimated to 46 - 368 million during 1995-1997. The life time medical care cost for AIDS patients in Thailand was equivalent to 35,539.55 baht, for an evaluate medical care cost of AIDS patients in Thailand during 1995-1997 was forecasted 166 - 599 million baht and about 125 - 451 million baht requested on govermentûs subport. An estimation the number of AIDS patients was analyzed by using Epimodel methodology which cost about 524 - 1,794 million baht during 1995 - 1997. The results have shown a lot of money that the government has to spent for AIDS care.
