10 Prime Causations of the High-burden Occupational Diseases

Abstract

This research traced back to the origin of disease incidence with the objective to gain informa­tion for communication messages for a better understanding of workers about ten prime causations of the high-burden occupational disease through exploring reports under the responsibility of the medical committee by the order of workmen’s compensation fund. The disease outcomes of 298 Thai workers in workplaces of Thailand as of 2017 was studied in 2 aspects: the root-cause hazards in working envi­ronments and the maximal allowable to be reasonably paid for necessary medical treatment expenses for each case. The high-burden occupational diseases in this studied population resulted from exposure to the 10 prime hazards were as follows: (1) commuting accident due to occupation, (2) electric shock, (3) flammable substance usage, (4) falling from height, (5) chemical, (6) infectious diseases, (7) dropped object, (8) load noise, (9) unsafe posture, causing musculoskeletal disorders, and (10) work stress. Disseminating this information would help the workers in Thailand to gain acknowledged on the causations of occupational illnesses, and become one of the ways to reduce the high-burden occupational diseases.
