Abstract

The objective of this study was to develop a model of the management for village health volunteer schools. The proposed model was develped at the Bansiyaksuanpa Village Health Volunteer (VHV) School at Bangkhan District, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province. It was conducted in 3 phases: (1) studying the general context of Bansiyaksuanpa VHV School from annual self-assessment reports through the observation and inquiry; (2) constructing a model of management for the Bansiyaksuanpa VHV School through an in-depth interview in order to retrieve existing bodies of knowledge from the school committee which included 11 informants: administrators, teachers, and students. The research scope was based on 7 management components: leadership, strategic planning, personnel management, process management, organizational climate creation, learning support activities, and technology; (3) developing a model of management for the Bansiyaksuanpa VHV School. The validity and congruity of the model were analyzed by the committee. It was found that the VHV school was a suitable learning base where students could learn from authentic, easy-to-understand, and concrete materials within the school area, which perfectly aligned with the school environment. The successful management model depended on the leadership of administrators who had determination, devotion, perspective for benefits of others, participatory working and teamwork skills, mutual aids, cooperative knowledge sharing, good role model application through learning and study visits, creative motivation, recruitment of role models in health promotion, voluntary and conscious mind working, active role of mentor and coaching and encouragement, serious and continuous actions, and utilyzing appropriate and modern tools. The author described such specification as the TERAWAT model. Through the in-depth interview, the school committee had analyzed the approach for validity and congruity; and they were satisfied with the proposed model.
