Nursing Care for Patients Undergoing Knee Replacement Surgery Two case studies

Abstract

The objective of this study is to study the lifestyle, behavior and contributing factors that cause osteoarthritis of the knee, including the development of effective guidelines for the care of patients who have undergone knee replacement surgery. This study looked at 2 case studies: 1, a Thai male partner, aged 63. Year of congenital disease HT, DLP, Gouth, OA Right knee S/P TKA Right Knee Chubby BMI 32.69. Case 2: Thai female, age 63 years, congenital disease HT BMI 30.76

The results of the study showed that the contributing factors for osteoarthritis of the knee were: Increasing age, heavy body weight knee-intensive behaviors and occupations. Also, people with a history of osteoarthritis of the other knee will promote faster osteoarthritis progression. And treatment by means of physical therapy, drug intake does not work. And effective treatment that satisfies the patient. This leads to a better quality of life, ie less pain in the knee, able to carry out more daily activities, have decreased dependence on the rash. TKA Arthroscopic Treatment Based on Data Collection of Male Orthopedic Surgery Thepparat Hospital Nakhon Ratchasima, fiscal year 2019, found that only 70 percent of patients treated by postoperative knee arthroscopy were able to bend the knee 90 degrees, therefore, the study developed guidelines to care for the patient.  And allow patients, after knee arthroscopy surgery, to be able to bend the knee 90 degrees, the goal is 100% developed a guideline as follows:

1.Prepare brochures on how to prepare for knee manipulation before knee replacement surgery.

2.Coordinate with the Outpatient Unit, Orthopedic Department to provide knowledge on preoperative preparation and distribute knowledge leaflets.

3.Coordinate with the physical therapy team one day before surgery to teach knee exercises.

4.After 24 hours of knee joint surgery, there will be a physical therapy team to visit and teach knee exercises everyday.

5.After returning home, patients were monitored by following medical records when they came to check after 1 month after surgery, call for symptoms after 3 months and 6 months after surgery.

The results of guideline development showed that patients could bend their knees.  Get 90 degrees for 100 percent
