Abstract

This descriptive research aims to study the success level of reducing the use of chemicals of 115 garlic farmers in Baan Pongsatue, Ban Kaeng Sub-district, Tron District, Uttaradit Province. Data were collected by using questionnaires and were analyzed by using descriptive statistics: frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation. The results showed that most of the farmers had high level of knowledge about growing garlic and chemical use. The reduction of chemical use in garlic production was attributable by leader’s council, marketing, participation, and sample household at a good level (μ=3.33, s=0.60; μ=3.19, s=0.80; μ=3.16, s=0.72; μ=3.11, s=0.62; respectively). The support from external organizations and personnel was at moderate level (μ=2.96, s=0.82). Therefore, the continuous promotion of the potential of the leadership should be emphasized and motivated to reduce their use of chemicals in garlic or other agricultural products. This approach should be a model for other areas with similar contexts so as to reduce the use of chemicals in farmers.
