Knowledge and Attitudes about Dental Cries and Oral Health Care of Parents for Preschool Children in Chiang Saen District, Chiang Rai Province : ความรู้ ทัศนคติเกี่ยวกับโรคฟันผุและการดูแลสุขภาพช่องปาก ในเด็กก่อนวัยเรียนของผู้ปกครอง ในเขตอำเภอเชียงแสน จังหวัดเชียงราย

ABSTRACT

          Dental caries in preschool children is a very important because children in this age group are most growing and intelligent development. The research aimed to study knowledge and attitudes about dental caries and oral health care practices of parents for their preschool children in Chiang Saen District, Chiang Rai Province. The samples were 238 parents of preschool children. Data collected by questionnaires and were analyzed by descriptive statistics; number, percentage, mean, and standard deviation. The correlation was analyzed using the Pearson correlation coefficient.

          The results showed that most parents had knowledge about dental caries in high level (68.90 %), attitudes about dental caries in moderate level (52.50%). The practices of oral health care for their school children were in high level (59.70%). The relationship analysis between their knowledge, attitudes and oral health care practice for preschool children showed that the parents’ knowledge significantly correlated with attitude and oral health care practice (r = 0.365, p <0.001and r = 0.309, p <0.001, respectively). The attitude significantly correlated with the parents’ practices for oral health care (r = 0.265, p <0.001). Therefor the parents should be encouraged to realize in oral health care practice of their preschool children to prevent dental caries.
