Quality Development of Nursing Record in Inpatient Department, Phuluang Hospital, Loei Province

Abstract

          This developmental study aimed to develop the quality of nursing recording in inpatient department of Phuluang hospital, Loei Province. This research was conducted by applying the FOCUS–PDCA method for quality improvement process which consisted of 9 steps: the process exploring for quality improvement, establishing the team with knowledge in the process, trying to understand the improving process, trying to understand the influencing factors on the process, method selection for improvement process, process planning, process implementation, evaluating the process action and confirming the operation and continuous improvement. The study samples were 10 registered nurses from the inpatient department. The research tools were the guiding questionnaire for focus group and the quality evaluation form for nursing record according to the National Health Security Office (NHSO) criteria. Data were analyzed using the descriptive statistics, frequency, mean and percentage.

          The results showed that the FOCUS–PDCA method could improve the quality of nursing record. The nurses could identify the root course of incomplete nursing record and select the appropriate guideline to solve problems. The guideline for nursing record writing was developed. The clearly established criteria for nursing record could improve the quality of nursing record. The systemic process in development of nursing record form required the participation of all operative personnel. After the nursing records were investigated, the quality of record was improved from 65.78% to 82.22%.
