Abstract

The purpose of this research was to study the factors influencing the outcomes of acute ischemic stroke patients treated with recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (rt–PA) from evidence–based practice. The samples were 71 patients with acute ischemic stroke admitted in stroke unit, Sakon Nakhon hospital. The patient data were collected from medical records from October 1st, 2017 to August 31st, 2018 using the data record forms with the index of consistency from 0.60 to 1.00. Data were analyzed using the descriptive statistics, frequency: percentage, mean and standard deviation and the inferential statistics: Chi–square test for association between the variables and the multiple regressions.

The research results demonstrated that most of the patients with acute ischemic stroke were male (63.4%). The patient aged sixty years old and over was 70.4%. The most common underlying disease was hypertension (23.9%) and subsequently, hypertension with diabetes mellitus (19.7). Most of them presented hemiparesis symptoms (53.5%) and subsequently bell’s palsy symptoms (23.9%). The most common duration of symptom presentation was from 06.01 to 12.00 am. (52.1%). The factors: sex, age, underlying disease, duration of symptom presentation and length of hospital stay were significantly associated with the outcomes of rt–PA treatment (p = 0.024, 0.001, 0.000, 0.000 and 0.006, respectively). In addition, the patient characteristic factors, age factor had significantly positive influence on the outcomes of rt–PA treatment (p =0.005).
