Effectiveness of Health Education Program on Health Promotion Behaviors of Elderly Persons in Hypertension Disease, Nafai District, Amphoe Muang, Chaiyaphum Province

Abstract

           The purposes of this research was to study the effectiveness of health education program on health promotion behaviors of elderly persons in hypertension disease in Nafai District, Amphoe Muang, Chaiyaphum province. The quasi experimental research tested before and after experiment. The samples were elderly persons aged 60 years and over. The 30 samples per each village were purposive selected from 2 villages and divided into experimental and control group. The experimental group was received the health education program on health promotion behaviors of elderly persons in hypertension created by the researchers. The control group was received the usually health education teaching. The instruments used in this research were the interview forms which were checked for quality by 3 experts. The content validity was from 0.66 to 1.00 and the reliability in the aspects of knowledge, attitude and practice were 0.82, 0.62 and 066, respectively. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics like frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation. The independent t–test was used to compare the different between means.

            The results showed that the elderly persons in experimental group received the health education program created by the researchers had the mean scores of knowledge, attitude and practice on health promotion behaviors of elderly persons in hypertension disease significantly higher than those of the control group received the usually health education teaching (p = 0.000, p = 0.002 and p = 0.000, respectively).
