Nursing Care of Elderly Patients with Hypertension Performed Herniorrhaphy : Case Study

Abstract

         The objective of this case study of nursing care in two elderly patients with hypertension performed right herniorrhaphy was to compare the nursing care for patients performed in– patient herniorrhaphy with the one day surgery (ODS) herniorrhaphy. The Orem’s nursing theory was applied for nursing care framework.

         The result showed that two patients received the same pre–operative preparation. The pre–operative evaluation and preparation was carried out by anesthetic nurse. In intra– anesthesia stage, the patients received different anesthesia. The first patient received the spinal anesthesia while the second patient, ODS herniorrhaphy, received the intravenous and local anesthesia. The first patient had complication, mild hypotension while the second case had no complication. In the post–anesthetic nursing care and continuity care, the signs and symptoms of these patients were observed in recovery room until they were stable. The evaluation form before discharge was applied differently. Both patients with different herniorrhaphy were evaluated before discharge and ware capable of self–care at home safely.
