Abstract

This was a research and development study aimed to develop the model of health literacy among overweight students using artificial intelligence and social networking activities. The study was conducted from July, 2020 to March, 2021. One hundred and eighty 2nd years of junior high school students in Trang province were enrolled. Their body mass indexes (BMI) were 23.01 to 29.99 kg / m2. The samples were randomized with a simple lottery method. The research was carried out in 3 phases as followed: phase 1, studying the problem condition and their demand and phase 2, drafting the model called 3STAFF and model trial. The research instrument consisted of the model and health literacy questionnaire that was applied in phase 3. The phase 3 was the model to assessment. The instrument was the health literacy questionnaire with the index of item objective congruence (IOC) of 0.79–1.00 and the reliability of 0.82 and the model satisfaction questionnaire with the IOC of 0.96–1.00. The quantitative data were analyzed by the descriptive statistics, mean, percentage and t–test. The p value less than 0.05 were considered significant. The qualitative data were analyzed by the content analysis method.

The results revealed that the developed model consisted of “3STAFF” as followed: Self– management, Salary, Social Networking, Technology (weight loss application), Activity, Friends and Follow up. The mean score of health literacy in the experimental group after model utilization was higher than that of before model utilization in 5 of 6 aspects at a statistical significance level of 0.05. The overall satisfaction of experimental group in the developed model was at a very good level (X ̅ = 3.649, S.D. = 0.607).

In conclusion, the artificial intelligence and social networking should be applied in weight loss among junior high school students to develop their health literacy; as a result, leading to the effective and continuous weight loss.
