Herbal Utilization in Postpartum Midwifery From 1994 to 2021: An Analysis of Systematic Reviews

Abstract

The objective of this research synthesis was to collect the researchs on midwifery in the postpartum period using herbs from year 1994 to 2021 using the conceptual framework with PICO tools. Eleven related researchs were found and then sorted out according to the exclusion criteria, leaving only 8 researchs, 3 in level A (randomized controlled trails), 1 in level B (quasi– experimental research), and 4 in level C (descriptive study). The analysis of systemic review found that midwifery in the postpartum period with the use of herbs were popular among women in rural, indigenous or low–income groups. The goal of using herbs was to balance the body, help in adjusting the uterus after childbirth and stimulate the secretion of milk in the breast–feeding group. The popular method was the wood–fired sauna, herbs bathing and drinking. The results of midwifery in the postpartum period with the use of herbs found that the postpartum mother were satisfied and save cost. The alternative medicine group recommended that postpartum mothers should use herbs. But it is important to note that the use of herbs has not been studied for definitive scientific effects. Therefore, the scientific effects as well as the health promotion in midwifery care in the postpartum period through the use of herbs should be further studed.
