Development of Nursing Supervision Model at Pakkhad Hospital, Bueng Kan Province

Abstract

           The purposes of this research and development were to develop a nursing supervision model for Pakkhad hospital and to study the effects of the developed nursing supervision model by comparing the opinion scores before and after development. The samples were 10 head and subhead nurses and 31 routine nurses. Four research tools were used; 1) a survey form of the nursing supervision situation 2) a test for nursing supervision knowledge 3) a questionnaires for supervisor’s opinion on the effect of nursing supervision model and 4) a questionnaires for the nurse’s opinion on the effect of nursing supervision model. The content validity of these tools was verified by 3 experts in nursing administration and research. The reliability coefficients of the second, the third, and the fourth tools were 0.92, 0.96 and 0.95, respectively. The qualitative data were analyzed by content analysis and summarizing conversational issues. The quantitative data were analyzed usingdescriptive statistics, frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation. The differences were analyzed using the Wilcoxon matched – pair signed ranks test.              The research findings revealed that the developed nursing supervision model consisted; 1) supervisor preparation 2) contraction 3) listening 4) exploring 5) action and 6) reviewing and evaluating and reflect. The average post–test scores of nursing supervision knowledge were higher than pre–test scores in all supervisors. After implementation of the developed nursing supervision model, the average opinion scores of supervisors and working nurses were statistically significant higher than those before implementation (p < 0.01 and p < 0.001, respectively).
