The Comparative Study on the Knowledge and Attitude of Relieving Pain in an Antepartum Period between Teaching by using the Multimedia and Usual Teaching for Pregnant Women at Nakhon Phanom Hospital
Abstract
The health education for preparing pregnant women of natural delivery could help them develop their knowledge, attitude and ability in self–caring throughout their pregnancy. This is a quasi–experimental research aimed to compare the knowledge and attitude of relieving pain through breathing in an antepartum period of the experimental group who was provided the multimedia teaching and the control group who was provided the usual teaching. The study was carried out from March to May, 2022. One hundred and ninety–six subjects were enrolled by simple random sampling and divided into two groups, of 98 in each group. The research tool consisted of the questionnaires for personal information, knowledge and attitude evaluation test and the teaching multimedia of relieving pain through breathing in an antepartum period. The tool’s structural validity had correlation values ranged from 0.39 to 0.73. The content validity was 0.78. The reliability tested by the Cronbach’s alpha coefficient was 0.92. The data were analyzed using mean, percentage, standard deviation. The knowledge and attitude score was compared by using independent t–tests.
The results showed that the knowledge and attitude of relieving pain through breathing in pregnant women were differences between the study group who was provided health education by usual teaching paralleled with multimedia teaching and the control group who was provided health education by usual teaching only. The comparison of mean scores of knowledge and attitude between two groups showed that the experimental group had higher mean score of knowledge and attitude than that of control group with the statistical significance level at 0.01.
