Development of Village Health Volunteers’ Knowledge and Skills in Caring for Diabetes Patient and their Families at Koksung Sub-district, Nongki District, Buriram. การพัฒนาความรู้และทักษะของอาสาสมัครสาธารณสุขประจำหมู่บ้านในด้านการดูแลผู้ป่วยโรคเบาหวานและครอบครัวในตำบลโคกสูง อำเภอหนองกี่ จังหวัดบุรีรัมย์
Abstract
Knowledge creating for a village health volunteer to work with public health officials could promote the success of public health problem management. This study aimed to develop the knowledge and skills of village health volunteers in caring for Diabetes Mellitus (DM) patients and their families in the community of Koksung Sub-district, Nongki District, Buriram Province. The Khon Kaen University Family Health Nursing (KKU FHN) Model was applied. The forty-five village health volunteers were participated in the workshop on DM and family caring. The workshop included two phases; the first phase was carried out for 2 day in eight modules activities. The second phase was 8-week practices in the community on caring for the DM and their families. Data were collected using the questionnaires to assess the knowledge and skills of the village health volunteers and the satisfaction of the patient and family. Data were analyzed by the statistics of frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation.
The results shown that after knowledge and skill development in DM and family caring, the mean total score of 84.44% village health volunteer was increased to a high level in every aspects. The mean scores of practice of village health volunteer were increased from the low to high level in dietary control, exercise, emotional management, emergency care, family role and health assessment aspects. The mean total satisfaction score of patients was increased from the moderate level ( =2.75) to the highest level ( =4.55). The mean total satisfaction score of families was increased from the moderate level ( =2.75) to the higg level ( =4.43).
