Abstract
ABSTRACT
This study aimed to study the perception and self-care behavior for stroke prevention in diabetic patients and the relationship between their perception and self-care behaviors for stroke prevention. The simple random sampling was applied and 171 patients with Diabetes mellitus (DM) and risk of stroke received health service at DM clinic, Khonsawan Hospital, Chaiyaphum province were enrolled. The data were analyzed using a descriptive statistic. The relationships were tested using the Pearson product moment coefficient.
The study found that 75.44% of DM patients had overall perception for stroke prevention in high level. In each part, the perception in risk, severity and benefits of self-care behaviors were in high level. The perception in barriers of self-care behaviors was in a medium level. Of 97.08%, DM patients had high-level of overall self-care behavior for stroke prevention. In each part, the behaviors in alcohol drinking, smoking, stress management, self-care, drug utilization, and exercise were in high level whereas the diet control was in a medium level. The overall perception for stroke prevention, and in each par; perception in risk, severity, benefits of self-care behaviors and barriers of self-care behaviors had positive correlation with the self-care behavior for stroke prevention at the statistically significant level of 0.05.
