Abstract

ABSTRACT

          The purposes of this quasi-experimental research were to compare the duration of mechanical ventilator weaning between the patients who received the developed clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) for weaning from mechanical ventilator and patients who received traditional CPGs and to compare the satisfaction of professional nurses before and after using the developed CPGs for caring of patients weaning from mechanical ventilator. The purposive sample included 40 patients who undergone endotracheal tube and mechanical ventilator. They were divided into control group; 20 patients who received traditional CPGs for weaning from mechanical ventilator from February to April, 2016 and experimental group; 20 patients who received developed CPG from July to August 2016. Ten professional nurses who used the CPGs for caring of patients weaning from mechanical ventilator were enrolled. The research tools included the demographic data collection form, evaluation form for weaning outcome, satisfaction questionnaire for professional nurses. The questionnaire was verified by 5 experts. The content validity index was 0.92 and the reliability tested by Cronbach’s alpha coefficient was 0.81. Data were analyzed by frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, Chi-Square test, and dependent t-test.

          The research findings showed that the duration of weaning in the experimental group received the developed CPGs was significantly shorter than that of control group received traditional CPGs (p < .001). The satisfaction of professional nurses after used the developed CPGs for caring of patients weaning from mechanical ventilator were significantly higher than before used (p < .001).
