Abstract

This quasi-experimental research aimed to compare the quality of nursing records before and after using focus charting records at female ward, Khoksamrong Hospital, Lop Buri Province. The research was conducted from April to July, 2017. The samples were the 45 nursing records in medical records of patients admitted at female ward and discharged within July, 2017. The research instrument included the quality evaluation form of nursing record with the reliability of 0.93. Data were analyzed using descriptive analysis and paired sample t-test.

          The results showed that after using the focus charting record, the average scores of nursing record quality were increased in assessment aspect ( = 5.44, S.D. = 1.455 vs = 4.09, S.D. = 1.663), diagnosis aspect ( = 5.89, S.D. = 1.402 vs = 4.98, S.D. = 0.812), intervention aspect ( = 5.73, S.D. = 1.304 vs = 3.82, S.D. = 1.029), evaluation aspect ( = 3.22, S.D. = 0.795 vs = 1.64, S.D. = 0.957) and continuous care aspect ( = 1.38, S.D. = 0.614 vs = 0.27, S.D. = 0.539). When compared in all aspects, the average scores of quality of focus charting records were statistically significant higher than those of former nursing records ( = 14.78, S.D. = 3.52, p < 0.001). The results demonstrated that the focus charting records increased quality of nursing records. Therefore, the focus charting records should be promoted and supported to apply covering all wards in Khoksamrong Hospital.
