School children (11-14 years old) had high rate of gingivitis, 25%. Gingivitis children without treatment can cause the permanent lost of teeth in the future. This analytical case-control study aimed to study the knowledge, attitudes, practice in oral health care and factors associated with gingivitis among students of Mathayomsuksa 1-3 in a school of Chiangkhan district, Loei province. The subjects consisted of 222 students divided into two group equally; study and control groups. Data were collected by questionnaires.

The results showed that more than 50% of study and control groups had gingivitis knowledge at a moderate level. The gingivitis attitude of 58.56% of study group was moderate. The 61.26% of control group had gingivitis attitude at a good level. Concerning practice in oral health care, 77.48% of the study group had sometimes practice and 54.96% of control group had regular practice. The factors associated significantly with gingivitis were; female had the higher risk of gingivitis than male (ORadj = 2.11, 95%CI: 1.09-4.06, p-value = 0.026), student class less than Mathayomsuksa 2 had the higher risk of gingivitis than the higher class student (ORadj=3.84,95% CI: 1.11-13.29, p-value = 0.034), oral health care with sometimes practice had the higher risk of gingivitis than those with good practice (ORadj= 3.01, 95%CI : 1.62-5.58, p-value <0.001).

This study suggested that the knowledge and oral health care activities should be provided to the students to gain knowledge and promote their everyday practices.
