Factors Associated with Parenting Behavior of Adolescents among Muslim Families in Kongra District, Phatthalung Province

The objective of this analytic cross-sectional study was to investigate factors associated with parenting behavior of adolescents among Muslim families in Kongra District, Phatthalung Province. The samples were 120 parents selected by systematic random sampling, and interviewed by using questionnaire. The content validity was tested by three experts and Conbach’s alpha coefficient of perceived self-esteem of parents, habitually characteristic of adolescents, family relationship, religious practice, and parenting behavior were 0.82, 0.73, 0.71, 0.78, and 0.79 respectively. Multiple regression analysis was used to analyze factors associated with parenting behavior of adolescents in Muslim families. It was found that family relationship was positively significantly associated with parenting behavior of adolescents among Muslim families (0.23, 95%CI 0.11 to 0.36). However, age was negatively significantly associated with parenting behavior of adolescents (-0.01, 95%CI: -0.02 to -0.01). The parenting behavior of adolescents was explained at 19.5 percent (R2 = 0.195). The results suggested that public sectors should promote family relationships among Muslim families using religious practices in order to increase parenting behavior of adolescents among Muslim families.
