Knowledge and Behavior of Dialysis Bag Management Derived from Dialysis at Home of Peritoneal Dialysis Patients in Dialysis Center of Sakon Nakhon Hospital
Abstract
This descriptive research purposed to study the level of knowledge and behavior in managing dialysis bags at home of peritoneal dialysis patients treated at the dialysis center of Sakon Nakhon Hospital. The samples were 229 patients who had peritoneal dialysis for 1 year or more. Data were collected from January to February 2020. The tools for data collection were the questionnaires created by researcher and validated for content validity and accuracy by 5 experts. The content validity index was 0.80. The reliability was tested by Kuder–Richardson (KR–20) and found that the reliability in knowledge of dialysis bag management and management behavior of the dialysis bag were 0.73 and 0.75, respectively. The data were analyzed using frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation.
The results revealed that most samples (94.8%) had knowledge about dialysis bag management in the medium level and 79.0% of the samples had dialysis bag management behavior in the good level. Furthermore, 55.8% of the samples had behavior in selling the dialysis bags to recycled–product shop. Most samples (96.8%) had incorrect behavior in dialysis bag management before selling to the recycled–product shop. Therefore, the knowledge of dialysis bags management should be provided and the behavior of peritoneal dialysis patients should be improved to gain the knowledge and correct management behavior of dialysis bags. As a result, the safety for health of our family and community environment is further increased.
