Abstract
This research and development study aimed to 1) study the situation of perioperative nursing care for patients with modified radical mastectomy (MRM) 2) develop the perioperative nursing practice guideline for MRM and 3) study the outcome after implementing this guideline. The study was conducted from August 1ST to November 30th, 2018. The samples were 1) thirty patients who undergone MRM 2) twenty–six scrub nurses worked in operative room and 3) twenty–six nurses worked at inpatient surgical department. The research tools were 1) perioperative nursing practice guideline for MRM 2) the satisfaction survey form for perioperative nursing practice guideline for MRM and 3) the appraisal of guidelines for research & evaluation (AGREE). Data were analyzed by using frequency, percentage, mean, standard and deviation. The result revealed that the scrub nurses had high level of satisfaction in all aspects (X ̅ =4.36, SD = 0.26) with the perioperative nursing practice guideline for MRM. The inpatient nurses had the highest level of satisfaction in all aspect (X ̅ = 4.51, S.D. = 0.54) with the perioperative nursing practice guideline for MRM. The patients undergone MRM had high level of satisfaction in all aspects (X ̅ = 4.46, S.D. = 0.58). After the guideline was implemented, there were no incidence of frozen shoulder and no operative wound infection. The opinion score in all aspect of quality of clinical practice guideline evaluated by AGREE was 98%. This perioperative nursing practice guideline for MRM should be further applied to other breast operations such as breast conservation therapy, axillary lymph node dissection and radical mastectomy.
