Abstract

The objective of this study was to study the efficiency of column agglutination technique (CAT) based automated analyzer for blood bank analysis between analysers A and B and compared their results with those of standard tube test. The study should be conducted before introducing the automated analyser to routine testing in order to get the accurate and précised reports, as a result, decrease the possible risk of transfusion reaction in patient. This was experimental research. The study samples were 120 blood samples from blood bank of Udon Thani hospital in which results wereknown by standard tube test. The routine blood bank tested was ABO and Rh grouping, antibody screening and compatibility test. Data were analyzedusing the descriptive statistic, frequency, percentage, sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV) and negative predictive value (NPV).

The result found that the resultof ABO and Rh grouping, antibody screening and compatibility test from automated analyzers A and B were in consistent with those from standard tube test. The sensitivity, specificity, PPV and NPV were all 100% in all tests. In conclusion, the results from CAT based automated analyzer A and B were compatible with standard tube test, as a result, they had sufficien tefficiency to apply to routine testing in blood bank, Udon Thani hospital.
