This descriptive research was to study the relationship between managerial competencies of nurse manager and nurses’ job satisfaction. The samples were registered nurses with working experience more than 6 months at general hospitals of Region 8 in the northeast of Thailand. Two hundred and fifty–six nurses were included in this study by stratified random sampling. The study conducted from October, 2019 to March, 2022. The research tools were questionnaires about nurse managers’ managerial competencies and nurses’ job satisfaction which content validity was explored by five experts. Their reliabilities determined by the Cronbach’s alpha coefficient were 0.95 and 0.97, respectively. Data were analyzed by using the Pearson’s correlation coefficient and stepwise multiple regression analysis. The level of 0.05 was considered a statistically significant.

The results showed that 1) the Pearson correlation coefficients analysis found that the nurse managers’ managerial competencies including human resource management, conceptual thinking and high–potential leadership had highly positive correlation with nurses’ job satisfaction at a statistical significance level of 0.05 (r = 0.789, 0.778, 0.815, respectively) 2) the registered nurses were satisfied with their jobs at high level (x ̅ = 4.25, S.D. = 0.62) and 3) the stepwise multiple regression analysis found that the nurse managers’ managerial competencies in the aspects of human resource and high–potential leadership could coordinately explain nurses’ job satisfaction accounted for 66.5% (R2 = 0.665) at a statistical significance level of 0.05.
