This cross-sectional study aimed to evaluate the knowledge, attitude, support from public health personnel and the practices of village health volunteers (VHVs) in capillary blood glucose checking in diabetic patients and to analyze the association between those variables and the practice of VHVs in capillary blood glucose checking in diabetic patients of Wiangkum Subdistrict, Kumpawapi District, Udonthani Province. One hundred and fifty one VHVs were randomly selected.  Data were collected using a structured questionnaire and analyzed using the descriptive statistics. The association was analyzed using Pearson's correlation coefficient.

The results indicated that VHVs had a high knowledge score on capillary blood sugar checking (67.5%), moderate attitude score on capillary blood glucose checking (62.9%). VHVs gained support from the health care personnel on the capillary blood sugar checking in a moderate level (58.3%). Majority (81.5%) of VHVs had a moderate practice score on capillary blood glucose checking. The variables associated with their practices in capillary blood glucose checking were; knowledge (r= 0.82, p < 0.001), attitude (r = 0.20, p = 0.014) and the support from health care personnel (r = 0.23, p = 0.004). As a result, the health care personnel should provide regularly the training for VHVs to gain knowledge and strengthen their good attitude in capillary blood glucose checking. Then, the result of blood glucose level will be accurate and reliable and VHVs would be more confident in their practices.
