One hundred and fifty one VHVs were randomly selected. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire and analyzed using the descriptive statistics. The association was analyzed using Pearson's correlation coefficient.
The results indicated that VHVs had a high knowledge score on capillary blood sugar checking (67.5%), moderate attitude score on capillary blood glucose checking (62.9%). VHVs gained support from the health care personnel on the capillary blood sugar checking in a moderate level (58.3%). Majority (81.5%) of VHVs had a moderate practice score on capillary blood glucose checking. The variables associated with their practices in capillary blood glucose checking were; knowledge (r= 0.82, p < 0.001), attitude (r = 0.20, p = 0.014) and the support from health care personnel (r = 0.23, p = 0.004). As a result, the health care personnel should provide regularly the training for VHVs to gain knowledge and strengthen their good attitude in capillary blood glucose checking.
