Abstract

This study aimed to compare the frequency of accurate practice in self-care of chronic kidney disease patients treated with hemodialysis before and after group process education. This is a quasi-experimental research. All 45 chronic kidney disease patients treated with hemodialysis at Ban Muang Hospital were enrolled. Instead of using the traditional education, classroom-like process and one-way communication, the researcher has developed the supported model for patient self-care, group process education, in which the patients can exchange the knowledge and ideas with each other and also with the educators. The new model was applied from February 15th, 2018 to June 15th, 2018. The frequency of accurate practice in self-care before and after group process education was compared using t-test statistics. The result showed that after group process education, the average frequency scores of accurate practice in self-care of chronic kidney disease patients treated with hemodialysis increased significantly from 29.07; SD 1.94 to 37.33; SD 1.87 (p < 0.01).
