Abstract

The twenty-first century learning focuses on the development of the students’ skills in analytical andcritical thinking, problem solving, team working, creative thinkingand communication. In accordance with the twenty-first century learning, the simulation-based learning techniquein the nursing carefor patients with shockwas introduced in the subject of Nursing Care of Persons with Health Problems III in order that the nursing students have learnfrom the problem facing, decision making and problem solving in the simulated environment and effectively relate their theory knowledge with the nursing practice for patient in the real situation. This descriptiveresearch aimed to explore the satisfaction of simulation-based learning in nursing care for patient with shock among nursing students. The sampleswere 101 nursing students in the 3rd year; academic year 2017, Bachelor of Science in Nursing program, Srimahasarakham nursing college. The research instrument was a satisfaction questionnaire with 5 rating scales andopen-ended question for problem or barrier encounteredand suggestions. The content validity index and the reliabilityof this questionnairewas 0.92 and  0.86, respectively. Data were analyzed using the descriptive statistics.

The results showed that mean satisfaction scores for simulation-based learning in nursing care for patient with shock among nursing studentswere at the highest levels both in total dimensions ( 12x"> =4.51, S.D. =0.36) and in each 5 dimensions; teaching activity arrangement ( 12x">  = 4.66, S.D. = 0.41), learner ( 12x"> = 4.63, S.D. = 0.36),content ( 12x"> = 4.40, S.D. =0.57), instructor ( 12x">  = 4.39, S.D. = 0.48) and learning resource ( 12x"> = 4.36, S.D. = 0.45). The problems encountered werethe time limitation, over quantity of student per group and lack of equipment and tools in simulation setting in nursing care for patient. Therefore, the simulation-based learning for nursing studentsshould be improved more effectively in the future.
